Getting started
Set up once. Translate when you need it.
Set up TransKey
Install from Google Play, follow the account setup and choose your target language. The guide here is for Android, not an iPhone overlay.
Enable the floating button
Follow the in-app setup to allow TransKey to display over other apps in Android settings. Return to TransKey and start the floating button.
Capture and translate
Open the content, tap the floating button and select screen translation. Approve Android screen capture when prompted. Dismiss the result when you are finished.
Choose the right way to translate
Comics and manga
Translate dialogue visible in your reader. Small or decorative lettering can require a clearer, zoomed-in view. See the manga guide for examples and other input modes.
You control the capture
Overlay permission enables the floating button. Screen capture permission lets the app read the selected screen content. Avoid capturing private content you do not want processed for translation.
Before you start
Why does Android ask for two permissions?
Displaying over other apps lets TransKey show its floating button. Screen capture lets it read what you ask it to translate. These are different permissions; follow the prompts in the app.
Is screen translation available on Free?
Yes, within the Free plan quota. Your plan and remaining allowance are shown in the app. Camera/image translation is a separate feature and may require a different plan.
Why is a screen blank or missing text?
Some apps protect their content against screen capture. Small text, animation or poor contrast can also affect recognition. Try a still, clear screen and check that the requested permissions are enabled.
Does it automatically translate everything continuously?
This guide describes starting a screen translation from the floating button. Translate again for new content; do not assume every app or changing screen will be translated automatically.
Can I turn the floating button off?
Yes. Stop the floating button from TransKey. You can also manage the display-over-other-apps permission in Android settings.
